Growing up in sunny Miami (12 months of pretty perfect beach weather) the warm, tropical environment was embedded into my DNA & the concept of sea & sand intersecting gave & continues to give me complete zen when we do get the opportunity to dip our toes in the sea (rare as they may be!)
Fast forward to adulting in New York City, where beach moments are limited from June to September (if we're being real) which is when you can sit on the coastline & enjoy the salty air without a sweater or blanket. The theoretical conversation at home always comes down to what's better, a beach house or a mountain house? What could we get more use out of living in the North? And is it possible to enjoy a beach house as much as a mountain house during the blistering, cold winter months? (Maybe? But probably not?)
The beach babe in me says a beach house is always the answer and preferably in a climate that's warm year round. BUT the logical babe in me, especially in recent days when I see our calendars filling up months in advance with work commitments, I think about how nice it would be to have a quick escape outside the city, (1.5-2 hours max) in nature, that requires little to no effort or hours on hours of jam packed travel. We think about when we'd desperately want to hit the beach (Jan-March) & sadly for us, that means dead of winter which requires getting out of dodge altogether. So, if we had the ability to just pick and choose, I'd say mountain house here in NYC & a beach house some place exotic or in LA (since CA has my soul anyway.)
Where do you guys picture yourselves truly enjoying your surroundings, limiting or not? Would you beach house or mountain house if you could?
Below are my top 8 beach & mountain homes. If only we could have one or better yet, BOTH! Enjoy a light Sunday read!
